Our Story

In the early 1990s, Dr. Asif Qadri, a long time MCC member and former director, proposed the idea of providing basic medical care to the uninsured segment of our community.  The MCC Board of Directors approved the project and directed him to spearhead the efforts of establishing a free health care center in the MCC premises.

The MCC Medical Clinic opened its door on June 14, 2003 with the commitment to provide high quality basic healthcare services to the uninsured population of age 18 and above of the community. The Muslim Community Center (MCC) provided the initial funding, clinic space, and matching funds for the grants as needed. The MCC continues to provide direct financial aid to those patients who are unable to pay for the diagnostic tests and medicines needed for their treatment.

The MCC Medical Clinic has assembled a remarkable group of volunteer physicians and staff who not only share their vision, dedication and commitment but also donate their expertise and personal funds to this noble cause. This wonderful team has transformed a humble initiative into a model which is inspiring other faith based groups to emulate. With the added enthusiasm and energy of new volunteers, the Clinic has dramatically increased its ability to deliver health care services to the uninsured.

The MCC Medical Clinic, with the help of its 20+ Board certified volunteer and paid physicians has provided care to approximately 15,000 patients, registering over 100,000 encounters since 2003. The MCC Medical Clinic relies on the help 25+ volunteers and staff members who handle clinic’s administrative tasks, conduct community outreach, arrange healthcare education sessions, coordinate public relation affairs and conduct health care related activities.

The MCC Medical Clinic's expansion and sustainability is made possible by the generous financial and technical support from the Montgomery Care and Primary Care Coalition, both part of the Montgomery County government’s initiative to provide health care to uninsured, low-income residents of the County. The MCC Medical Clinic has received generous monetary and in-kind grants from the Kaiser Permanente, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Healthcare Initiative Foundation, Maryland State, Montgomery County, and the Muslim Community Center.

The clinic started as a primary care clinic but now offers services in several other specialty areas, such as cardiology, Gynecology, gastroenterology, oncology, dermatology, psychiatry, optometry, and physical therapy. The Clinic also runs programs for domestic violence prevention and offers mental health counseling.

The MCC Medical Clinic will not refuse service to any patient who is financially unable to afford copay.  Patients in need of financial help are requested to fill out Zakat or Sadeqa application for the Muslim Community Center prior to their scheduled appointment.  Please note that we absolutely have no control on lab, radiology, medications, and other costs required by outside vendors.
